Sometimes, a little self-care is just what we need to recharge—whether you’re a mom, wife, or girlfriend. That’s where a retreat can come in handy. I know the idea of booking a vacation with a group of strangers might seem daunting at first. I had the same reservations when I signed my family up for a “family retreat” over winter break for the first time. There were moments when I questioned what I had committed us to. But then I realized: anyone willing to take their family five hours outside Panama City to learn how to surf is probably someone I’d get along with. And I was right! I’m now a firm believer in the power of retreats. While our family retreat was a blast, I’ve got my eye on three more retreats that are perfect for some well-deserved self-care.
Sansara Resort
Cambutal, Panama
If you’re seeking a blend of luxury and eco-consciousness for your getaway, look no further than Sansara. This stunning surf and yoga retreat center is nestled in Cambutal, Panama—a location not too far from where I went on my first retreat! Cambutal, situated about five hours from Panama City, is where the jungle meets the ocean in a spectacular setting. The resort is built and operated with sustainability in mind. They offer a range of retreats that cater to yoga enthusiasts, surf lovers, adventure seekers, or those who want to experience all three. You can check out their current retreat schedule here.
Live Alive Adventures
Multiple locations
If you're looking for more adventure than a traditional retreat, this is for you. Ideal for those who crave a week of excitement without the hassle of planning, these trips offer the chance to fully embrace life. Over the next year, they’ll be organizing adventures to the Faroe Islands, Panama, Patagonia, and Croatia. Expect thrilling experiences, nourishing meals, engaging workshops, and daily yoga and meditation. You can find their current schedule here. Pro tip: Live Alive will be hosting a retreat at Sansara in Feb. 2025. Win-win!
Surf With Amigas
multiple locations
Founded by former professional surfer Holly Beck, Surf with Amigas offers women’s surf and yoga retreats across Central America, Morocco, Indonesia, Portugal, and even the Maldives! With a mission to “inspire other women in both surfing and life,” SWA is dedicated to empowering women through their retreats. Their website makes planning easy by providing transparent pricing along with details on accommodations, flights, and the types of surf breaks you can expect. Check out their current retreat schedule schedule here.
Let’s be honest: while visiting beautiful destinations is amazing, it’s meeting incredible people that truly enriches the journey.
Happy Travels!
Incredible! You really make a great argument for retreats! I need to try one of these. What a cool way to travel.
